Eagles Fall in Home Opener
DUBUQUE, Ia. – Emmaus suffered their first defeat, 10-1, in a home opening match versus Eureka College at Fish Field on Saturday.
The Eagles battled strong in the opening 45-minutes taking a 3-1 deficit into halftime. A 22nd minute counter-attack goal from Uredi Mulinga tied the score at 1-1. Eureka's attack kept pressing however, leading to response goals n the 27th and 40th minutes.
In the second half, a 56th minute goal shifted the momentum fully in Euraka's favor, and a wave of attacks followed that the Eagles could not overcome on the day, with Eureka notching 7 second half goals to earn the victory.
"The game was a good learning experience for us. We have 6 new starters, and we had to rework our central midfield today, with some players out.
I thought that the guys battled hard, tackled tough, and so even with the lopsided result, playing this game made us better today," shared Coach Chris McHugh.
The Eagles retake the field next weekend for their first MCCC match of the year versus Ozark Christian in Joplin, MO.
