Men's Soccer Opens Season with 7-1 Victory over Trinity Bible
The Emmaus University Men's Soccer team kicked off its 2025 season in commanding fashion with a 7–1 win over Trinity Bible College (N.D.) on Saturday afternoon at Jack Fish Field.
The Eagles set the tone early, dominating possession and outshooting the Lions 27–2 in the first half. Freshman Evann Kumar opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing off a well-placed assist from Seth Karl. Minutes later, Jake Matte doubled the lead with a composed strike in the 22nd minute off a feed from Claudius Holzman. Just before halftime, Edwin Ventura-Magallon made it 3–0 with a powerful shot to give Emmaus a commanding lead at the break.
The Eagles wasted no time adding to their tally in the second half. Within three minutes of play resuming, Holzman scored twice (46' and 49'), with Matte assisting on both goals. Holzman later completed his hat trick in the 64th minute, pushing the lead to 6–0.
Trinity broke through in the 70th minute when Damian Myers found the net, but Emmaus quickly responded. In the 74th minute, Matte scored his second of the match, assisted by Ventura-Magallon, to close out the 7–1 victory.
"This was a good start to our season, and I was encouraged about our performance!" said Coach McHugh. "We demonstrated a lot of things that we had trained on during preseason, and so it's helpful to see where things worked and where we can keep improving."
In total, the Eagles fired 52 shots (30 on target) compared to Trinity's 11. Emmaus goalkeeper, Tucker Kapas, finished with 6 saves.
