Eagles Lose Heartbreaker on Homecoming Weekend
Emmaus men's soccer turned in a gritty performance on Saturday afternoon at Jack Fish Field but came up just short in a 1–0 loss to Great Lakes Christian (3-4-2). The loss pushes the Eagles to 3-4-1 on the season and 1-1 in region play.
The game's lone goal came in the 25th minute, when Great Lakes' Daniel Dokie scored off assists from Jonny Torres and Marshal Eva. Despite falling behind early, Emmaus created plenty of chances, firing 21 shots with nine on frame.
Senior forward Jake Matte was a constant threat, recording eight shots and forcing four saves from the Great Lakes keeper. Claudius Holzman also pushed the attack with nine shots, four of them on goal. Emmaus had multiple looks late in both halves, including a series of headers and shots in the final minutes, but the visitors' defense and goalkeeper held strong to preserve the shutout.
On the defensive end, goalkeeper Tucker Kapas made four saves to keep the Eagles within striking distance, while defenders Seth Karl and John David Miller anchored the back line.
Physical play added to the intensity as both sides picked up yellow cards—Emmaus in the 68th minute and Great Lakes in the 89th.
Emmaus hosts back to back matches this week, facing region opponent, #10 Maranatha Baptist, on Thursday at 4:00, then conference opponent, Ozark Christian, on Saturday at 12:00
