Eagles Come Up Short in Defensive Battle with #10 Maranatha
The Emmaus University men's soccer team (3-5-1, 1-1-1) put forth a determined effort Thursday afternoon at Jack Fish Field but came up just short in a 1–0 loss to #10 Maranatha Baptist.
The decisive moment came in the 57th minute, when Maranatha's Matheus Ribeiro scored the lone goal of the match off a well-placed assist from Joshua Donovan and Davin Johnson.
Emmaus had opportunities to level the match, including a golden chance in the 78th minute when forward Jake Matte stepped up to the penalty spot. His shot, however, missed wide, allowing Maranatha to preserve their narrow lead.
Despite being outshot 28–5, the Eagles stayed within striking distance thanks to an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Tucker Kapas, who recorded 10 saves—five in each half. Defenders Asuan Tomlinson, Seth Karl, and Clayton Beachall helped anchor the back line, limiting Maranatha's looks inside the box.
On the offensive end, Claudius Holzman, Matte, and Paul Johnson each generated chances, while midfielders Evann Kumar and Bennett Kreiner provided steady minutes in transition.
The Eagles are back on the pitch tomorrow, hosting conference opponent Ozark Christian (5-5-1) at 12:00.
