Emmaus Falls to Central Christian Despite Late Second-Half Goal
The Emmaus University men's soccer team showed fight in the second half but couldn't overcome an early deficit, falling 4–1 to #8 Central Christian College of the Bible on Friday afternoon at Jack Fish Field.
Central Christian opened the scoring in the eighth minute and carried a 1–0 advantage into halftime. The visitors extended their lead with three goals in a 14-minute stretch midway through the second half before Emmaus found the net late in the match.
The Eagles' lone goal came in the 85th minute, when freshman forward Jake Matte scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season, finishing off a pass from Bennett Kreiner to cap a strong attacking sequence.
Matte led the Emmaus offense with six shots, including two on target, while James Staudinger and Seth Karl each added one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Tucker Kapas recorded five saves in the match, including four in the first half to keep the game close.
With the result, Emmaus moved to 3–7–2 overall and 1–3–2 in conference play. The Eagles will look to bounce back when they continue their homestand next week at Jack Fish Field, hosting #3 Grace Christian University on Saturday at 12:30.
